- Skadar Lake is the largest lake in the Balkans and the second largest National Park in Montenegro.
- Montenegro has five National Parks, and Skadar Lake is the only one dominated by water.
- It is one of the oldest lakes in Europe.
- The Dalmatian pelican has one of its last natural breeding colonies here.
- The lake has over 30 underwater springs (oka), some deeper than 60 meters.
- In summer, the lake water can be very warm, while near the springs it is always cold.
